How to Make Kick Highlights From a Stream: Clips, VODs and Downloads

How to clip a Kick stream live or from a VOD: clip limits (10 to 180 seconds, 60-second cooldown), how long Kick keeps VODs, and how to download a clip.

How do I make a highlight from a Kick stream?

On Kick, open the live stream or a VOD (a saved replay), click the Clip icon or press C, drag the handles to pick 10 to 180 seconds, and click Publish. The clip is published to Kick, and you can download it as an .mp4 from the clip page.

Kick's help pages describe clips and VODs; they do not describe a separate highlights tool. A highlight is a clip, or several clips you join in a video editor. This page follows Kick's own help articles (checked 2026-10-22) and then covers where a recording from Streamable (streamable.run), the cloud-hosted OBS service, can help.

Make a clip, step by step

These steps come from Kick's clip help article. Kick can change its player, so if a button looks different, check that page first.

  • Open the stream or VOD you want to clip. You need to be logged in to a Kick account.
  • Click the Clip icon in the player, or press C.
  • In the Create clip window, drag the handles to set the start and end, and add a title. Kick shows a preview that reflects your changes.
  • Click Publish. The button reads "Publishing to KICK" while the clip is processed.
  • When it finishes, you can download the clip, copy its link to share, or (for live clips only) send it to the streamer's chat.

What are the limits?

Kick's clip article lists these rules. A clip is 10 to 180 seconds long, and the maximum is the same on desktop and mobile. There is a 60-second cooldown between clips. You cannot clip if you are banned from the streamer's chat. Any logged-in viewer can clip, and so can the streamer.

Two practical consequences: pick your moment before you press C, because you only get one clip a minute, and a long highlight has to be several clips or an edit, because a single clip stops at three minutes.

Can I clip from a VOD?

Yes, according to Kick's main clip article, which says clips can be made from a livestream or a VOD. Kick's troubleshooting article, last updated earlier (May 6, 2026), says clipping generally works only on live streams. The clip article is newer, so we follow it. If the Clip icon is missing on a VOD, the streamer may have turned clipping off for the channel, so ask them or clip live next time.

For VOD clips, the option to send the clip to the streamer's chat is not available, because the stream is not live.

Where do clips and VODs live, and how long do they last?

A VOD is saved automatically when a livestream ends. Streamers find it on their channel page (kick.com/your_username) under the Videos tab. Kick's VOD article (updated May 21, 2026) says verified channels keep VODs for 30 days and hold up to 30 at once. Non-verified channels keep them for 7 days and hold up to 16.

The two limits matter together. A streamer who goes live often can lose an older VOD before its time limit runs out, because the channel is capped at 16 or 30. If you want a highlight from a stream, make the clip within the retention window.

Clips are separate from VODs. The channel owner can find clips in the Clips tab on their channel page, and only the channel owner can delete a clip. If a clip you remember is gone, Kick says the streamer probably deleted it. Kick's clip-error article (May 6, 2026) says clips can take a few minutes to appear after you publish.

How do I download a Kick clip or VOD?

For a clip, open it and click Download. Kick gives you an .mp4 file. That is the route Kick's help documents.

For a full VOD, Kick's VOD help page covers where VODs are saved, how long they stay and how to delete or make one private. It does not describe a download button, so we cannot point you to one from Kick's own documentation. Some third-party sites say a download option exists in the Kick dashboard and others say it does not. Check your own dashboard. If you can't download the VOD from Kick, the safest copy is a recording you made yourself, covered next.

Where does a cloud recording help?

A Kick clip is cut from what Kick received and kept. If you also want your own full-length file to edit into a highlight reel, or Kick's VOD window has passed, a recording you control is the backup.

Streamable has a Stream Recording setting for this. When it is on, your stream is recorded automatically, and the recording appears on the Recordings page after your stream ends, ready to download for post-editing. The setting applies from your next stream start, so turn it on before you go live. Streamable keeps recordings for 90 days, which is longer than Kick's 7 or 30. Download the ones you want to keep before they expire. Recording is not included on every plan, so check the current plan details on streamable.run before relying on it.

A recording is a whole-stream file, not a clip. Cut your highlight from it in any video editor, or use Kick's clip tool on the live stream as well. If you run a Kick stream with a clips player on screen, our guide to adding a Twitch or Kick clips player in OBS covers that setup.

Next step

Before your next Kick stream, make one test clip so you know the Clip icon works on your channel, and turn on recording if you want a full-length file. To stream to Kick from Streamable, add Kick as a destination.
